Volunteer Tax Preparers Needed

The
Community Forum for Economic Development once again will partner with
the Internal Revenue Service, the United Way of St. Joseph County, and
two dozen other institutions, organizations and agencies that form the
Tri-County Tax Team, a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA).
VITA is the IRS-certified program that prepares and e-files tax returns
free of charge for low- to moderate-income individuals and families.

The
Tri-County Tax Team currently is recruiting volunteers for this year's
program.  Previous experience is not necessary; training will be
provided.  You can become an IRS-certified volunteer tax preparer or
assist at tax preparation sites as a greeter or screener.

An orientation session, to be held next Friday, August 27th, at 5:30 PM at
the United Way Office (3517 East Jefferson Blvd., SB ), will provide a
good overview of the VITA program, from our mission and vision to
detailed information about the roles of volunteers.  Training sessions
will begin after Labor Day.

If you would like to talk with CFED members who participated in last year's program, call
Teresa Marcy, 272-3089, to find out about the role of the tax preparer, or
Mayadene Paysoure, 299-8635, to learn about the role of greeters and screeners.
