Upcoming Events

1. This week at the URBAN GARDEN MARKET:

As
you make your plans for this holiday weekend, consider a visit to the
Urban Garden Market to stock up on fresh local produce for your picnic
or tailgate party.  The Market is open between 9 and 1 on Saturday
mornings through October 2.  Vendors provide a wide variety of fruits
and vegetables, homemade baked goods, relish, pickles, etc.  This
Saturday we will have a new vendor, Jimmy Mac's Rib Shack,
offering ribs, tips, chicken, cole slaw and potato salad — perfect
food for your football party.  We'll also have music this Saturday.  Mike and Michael (acoustic rock) will
join us.   If you haven't yet visited the Urban Garden Market, it's
located on the west side of Bendix Avenue, just south of Lincoln Way
West.

 3. The MINORITY HEALTH COALITION is sponsoring a town hall meeting on SMOKE FREE AIR:

Secondhand
smoke disproportionately affects minority populations in Indiana.
According to state health officials, secondhand smoke causes
respiratory disease in children (ear infections, asthma, bronchitis and
pneumonia), low birth weight infants, sudden infant death syndrome,
lung cancer, nasal sinus cancer, and heart disease. Secondhand smoke
kills 65,000 nonsmokers in the United States (U.S.) each year.  The
Saint Joseph County Minority Health Coalition will raise awareness and
garner support for a statewide smoke-free policy. Community members are
welcome to come, hear the panel and ask questions.
