1. This week at the URBAN GARDEN MARKET:

Something for almost everyone!  
Fall
fruits and vegetables in abundance. Fresh, local, delicious.  Last
weeks ribs and barbecued chicken were a great hit and Jimmy Mac will be
back this week with great football game food for sale.  Word has it
that Wendy, our "cookie-lady" will return this week; Lyn-Joyce
continues to bring us a taste of New Orleans (beignets) each Saturday
plus wonderful homemade pastry.  For your Fall decorating, Jason will
have pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn and broom grass for sale.

There will be two special events this Saturday.
Musician, poet, and longtime friend of LaSalle Square, Lori Sigety will be sharing a combination of drumming and poetry reading.  Also, Junk Evolution will
be at the Market showing how to repurpose items in several ways. A
program demonstration will take place approximately every 1/2 hour.
Samples will be available for viewing, and a few items will be

2. September's LUNCH WITH THE LEAGUE:

Who: Dr. Elizabeth Bennion,
Associate Professor of Political Science at IU South Bend, First Vice
President of the League of Women Voters of the South Bend Area

What: "Women in American Politics: Past Struggles and Future Opportunities"  This
presentation incorporates photographs, video clips, and other materials
to help the audience experience and understand women's ongoing battle
for equal rights.  There will also be discussion of the future of women
in American politics, including media predictions about another "Year
of the Woman" and Sarah Palin's prediction that a herd of pink
elephants (and mama grizzlies) will stampede  their way into office
this November.  Fact or fiction?  What do political scientists say?
Attend and find out!

When: Friday, September 10, 2010; Speaker at Noon, come early to purchase lunch.
Where: South Bend Chocolate Cafe (122 S. Michigan St., South Bend)

3. An invitation to Parents of Students in the SBCSC:

A new Parent Program is being formed for parents of students in the SBCSC, Parents Empowered to Create Change.  The initial meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept 14,
2010 from 5:30 – 6:30 PM at the Charles Martin Youth Center (802
Lincoln Way West, South Bend).  Refreshments will be provided.  Please
RSVP by Friday, Sept 10 at 574-289-1066, Ext. 205.  A flyer with more
