SCOTT FORD, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SOUTH BEND'S DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY INVESTMENT, WILL BE OUR GUEST SPEAKER AT THE CFED MEETING ON TUESDAY NIGHT

When – Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.
Where – LaSalle Branch Library, 3232 West Ardmore Trail, South Bend
Sponsored by the Community Forum for Economic Development

Mr. Ford will share his approach to local economic development, explain how the new structure of the Department of Community Investment could impact local development initiatives, and respond to questions from the audience.
    The
Department of Community Investment (formerly the Department of
Community & Economic Development) is responsible for many of the
areas of City government that directly affect the economic health and
development of South Bend and has decisive input on other decisions
regarding local economic development.  We invite your participation in
this discussion and welcome the questions you may have for Mr. Ford.
    Since
the formation of the Community Forum for Economic Development in 2006,
we have investigated, discussed, and advocated policies that would
ensure the fair, just and equitable use of public resources for economic
development projects.  Examples include South Bend's tax abatement
policies and concerns about our TIF districts.  We also have encouraged
and supported public involvement in local economic development, an
involvement that requires the maximum possible transparency and allows
for the greatest accountability.  Our interests have also extended to
programs that could impact the quality of life for all segments of the
South Bend community, such as neighborhood development, programs that
address poverty, the development of minority business and local hiring,
etc.
Join us on Tuesday night; bring you questions and experiences, and participate in the building of a strong and just South Bend.
