Participants announced for morning panel on educational policies and practices at Forum on School to Prison Pipeline
Participants for the morning panel on educational policies and practices include Indiana State Representative Gregory Porter, a representative of VOYCE (Voices of Youth in Chicago Education), Dawn Jones, a member of the South Bend School Board of Trustees, and Regina Williams- Preston, a local teacher and education activist.
The panel will address the importance of educational policies and practices that make the criminalization and incarceration of children and youth more likely, and the attainment of a high-quality education less likely (the “School to Prison Pipeline”).
Our morning program will also feature a keynote address by Dr. Russell Skiba, the Director of the Equity Project at Indiana University and a national expert on school discipline practices.
Afternoon workshops on issues such as transforming teaching, empowering parents, youth involvement and alternatives to suspension will provide opportunities to learn and to become involved in community efforts to understand and challenge the School to Prison Pipeline in our own community.
