LEARN ABOUT

South Bend Home Repair Pilot funding
The City has doubled funding levels for home repair to $650,000 and eliminated previous restriction for its use. Based on prior year averages, the city hopes to assist about 65 homeowners within a selected target area, investing in homes that can be preserved through repair efforts.

New Apartments in the Historic Brewery Complex
The nonprofit Neighborhood Development Associates LLC plans to convert the former South Bend Brewing Association building, 1636 Lincoln Way West, into a 22-unit apartment building with affordable rental rates.

New Single-family Rental Homes
A second NDA project would build single-family rental homes on 14 empty lots. The homes will be owned cooperatively by South Bend Mutual Homes, which built 24 rental homes in 2016. Tenants pay rent based on their income, and they must be interviewed and approved by a board whose members are elected by residents. The target market for these homes are people who are working, but can’t afford market rate housing.

65+22+14 = 91 New or repaired homes providing safe & affordable housing!
