Oct 30: HHR Meeting on Lead Poisoning and Medicaid Clients at Beacon

NEXT MEETING OF HHR — Monday, October 30, 2024 at 6 pm.

Community Learning Center of the Main Street Library, in Classroom B

Program topics:
1. Lead Poisoning Prevention in SJC

2. Beacon Health System: What has changed for Medicaid clients?

At our October 12 meeting, we made a last-minute change in plans.  We decided to devote the entire meeting to learning the results of the Eviction Court Watch.  Judy Fox and Katherine Wines summarized their initial findings, followed by a lively discussion by attendees at the meeting.

We’ve rescheduled the Lead Affinity Group’s presentation for next Monday’s meeting, with Kathy Schuth leading the discussion.

For the second half of the Oct. 30 meeting, we’ll focus on the changes planned by the Beacon Health System, where Medicaid clients at some of its primary care practices are being referred to doctors at nonprofit clinics outside of Beacon.

This could have devastating consequences for community members who already are affected by housing insecurity, especially for our unhoused population.

A growing number of housing activists currently are gathering information about what and why the changes are being made and we will share our understanding at the meeting. We hope you will join us for the discussion.

Two documents provide some background for our discussion.  Click below for
