What’s Happening with HHR-Action
WHAT HAPPENED AT OUR NOVEMBER MEETING?
We heard from Myrnetta Daniel, the Chief Residential Officer at the Center for the Homeless,
Sheila McCarthy, Director of Motels4Now, and Carl Hetler, Homeless Coordinator for South Bend. They shared information about changes in this year's Weather Amnesty Program and responded to numerous questions and comments from those attending the meeting.
WHAT IS PLANNED FOR THE FIRST MEETING OF 2024?
A group of housing activists has been meeting to develop a proposal for a Housing Trust Fund in St. Joe County. Housing trust funds are distinct funds established by city, county or state governments that receive ongoing dedicated sources of public funding to support the preservation and production of affordable housing and increase opportunities and individuals to access affordable homes. We'll hear more about their plans at our next meeting: Thursday, January 11, 2024, 6 -7:30 pm, YWCA North Central Indiana (1102 Fellows St., SB)

WHAT'S HAPPENING DURING DECEMBER?
During December we're developing an “Organizing Team,” composed of members representing a variety of housing perspectives and experiences. These team members will meet bimonthly (every two months) to discuss and decide on future programs, projects, and discussions. Several members of the Organizing Team will function as a smaller “Steering Committee,” responsible for the implementation of these plans. Meetings of the Organizing Team will open to all participants of HHR. Members of the Organizing Team should include activists addressing one or more of these areas: Homelessness, Eviction, Insufficient safe & accessible housing units, Tenant rights and responsibilities, and Advocacy (local, state and federal levels)
ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING: Thursday, Dec.7, 5-7 pm, at the Civil Rights Heritage Center.
We'll share pizza and make plans for future meetings and projects.
